What I want

I'm not a huge fan of this sort of music, but Mr Blue Sky does, somehow, seem to get under my skin in a mad, Hippyish way.

Try to ignore the distracting frizzy-hairstyles if you can, and imagine a gloriously sunny day.

  1. Greatly enjoyed that, thanks. For some reason ELO get virtually no airplay. There should be a ELO week in Glee - think I might start campaigning now. I have you to thank for having watched two entire seasons of that now on your recommendation (your blog truly does broaden cultural horizons - it's not just about penis) although finale to season 2 was really lame so may stop watching soon. 2. Sun is shinin' in the sky
There ain't a cloud in sight
    It's stopped rainin' ev'rybody's in a play
    And don't you know
    It's a beautiful new day hey,hey

    Runnin' down the avenue
See how the sun shines brightly in the city
On the streets where once was pity
Mister Blue Sky is living here today hey, hey

Mister Blue Sky please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long
    Where did we go wrong?

Hey you with the pretty face
    Welcome to the human race
A celebration, Mister Blue Sky's up there waitin'
And today is the day we've waited for

    Hey there Mister Blue
We're so pleased to be with you
Look around see what you do
    Ev'rybody smiles at you

Mister Blue Sky, Mister Blue Sky
    Mister Blue Sky

Mister Blue, you did it right
But soon comes Mister Night creepin' over
Now his hand is on your shoulder
Never mind I'll remember you this -
    I'll remember you this way

Mister Blue Sky please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long
    Where did we go wrong?

    Hey there Mister Blue
We're so pleased to be with you
Look around see what you do
    Ev'rybody smiles at you

  3. Disagree with Anon...ELO gets quite a lot of airplay on Radio 2 (esp Mr Blue Sky). Probably more now than they did 20 years ago. Been sampled in a couple of songs recently. They're getting some of the recognition they deserved to get years ago.

ps LeDuc. You missed some of the vocal. Right at the end of all the BaBaBas there is a vocorder saying "now please turn o-ver" dating to the time when this was the last song on side three of 1977's Out of the Blue double album. Sheer brilliance. (though I would have expected you to prefer Last Train to London)
