Pacifying

I've received complaints that I am not featuring enough pre-Second World War images of awesome steam locomotives, so how's this 1938 job:


That was, of course, a London & North Eastern Railway A4 Pacific (one of the class that holds the world record for highest ever speed by a steam locomotive), designed by Sir Nigel Gresley and named after himself, in the LNER's glorious garter blue livery (styling and colours by Bugatti).

It all seems a bit wasted on Doncaster, don't you think?
