Modernity

I think most of us in the rich world have still not realised how swiftly our world has changed, and how the spread of technology has -- is still -- reshaping our morality.

Take this article from fabby online magazine DNA, about two cuties.

These delightful-looking chaps are website creators and hosts, as well as being models and, er, escorts, who are happily married.

Here's the skinny from their interview with DNA (like everything else in this post, click to enlarge):

Such frankness and openness would be unimaginable when I was a kid (no, that's not such a long time ago), when, in my admittedly backward market town, it was a cause of some scandal when a divorcée moved into the house opposite.

In fact, there was just one boy in my (all boys) class at school who was living in a single-parent family: everyone else had parents who stayed together "for the sake of the family" and, doubtless, made their families and themselves utterly miserable as a result. "Lives of quiet desperation" and all that.

Still, Marcello and Enrico don't look at all miserable. In fact, they look rather sweetly contented together. Maybe all this change stuff is for the best.
