Reviews of rubbish films: 2) Brilliant Love

While The King's Speech is garnering all the media attention, let's have a look at another public-financed British film: Brilliant Love.

Starring hairy hotty Liam Browne, this is very much a "Northern" film, set in assorted grungy bits of the North-East, and featuring Northern stock types. It's also allegedly a film about love; desperate, sexual love between a couple who are besotted with each other. So there are lots of raunchy-ish sex scenes (or, at least, what passes for raunchy in Straight World):

Brilliant Love went straight to DVD and was hardly reviewed anywhere, so you've probably missed it. It's an oddly depressing movie (unsurprising really as it does involve living in The North). There are almost no images thrown up by Google other than the tiny ones in the rest of this post. Which is a pity, because hairy hotty Liam gets his cock out for us quite a lot:

That was all shrivelled after a freezing cold sea dip, and this was a sequence when, for no apparent reason, we watch Liam washing his cock in an enamel basin:

Dramatically this film is all over the place, a student-type first feature, but the acting from the two leads is committed and bold (if sometimes a bit stiffly student theatre), and there's actually something rather interesting about seeing these rarely-filmed landscapes on the screen. But there probably ought not to have been any Oscar buzz around it.

That is a mighty fine set of bits. I may have to add this to my Lovefilm list and fast forward.
